” Painted in the South of France, from a storm I witnessed in March.
The main inspiration for this painting is purely the colours and the contrast of light between the dark sky and the sunlit sea. I can be as crazy as I liked depicting the waves, using my normal techniques. Then as soon as the dark purple of the sky is added, our minds instantly perceive the foreground as the sea. This is one my most abstract representations of the sea, relying on the colours to tell the story and subject.”
